Hi, I'm Emma
A bachelor-qualified Nutritionist,
a Feature Writer (and ex-dieter).
I help over-scheduled working Mums stress less, sleep more, and reach (and make peace with) their healthy weight.
When you stop focusing on the scales and start focusing on your health, you can find a way back to your happy self.
Have you followed all the diet trends but still struggle to maintain a healthy weight?
You're not alone! 95-98% of dieters regain the weight in 4-5 years.
It's a mind-boggling statistic isn't it!
Diets focus on restriction and I know from personal experience that restriction at best, can make you miserable and at worst, can lead to bingeing and disordered eating. Read more of my story here.
Are you tired, wired and overwhelmed?
Do you rely on caffeine to get you through the day?
Perhaps you find yourself reaching for a sugary treat to make it past the mid-afternoon slump?
On the drive home, do you think about the glass of wine that is waiting for you once the kids are in bed?
As soon as they as tucked in, you pour yourself a glass. You feel the stress start to dissipate so you pour yourself another.
However, when you finally wind down enough to go to bed, you don’t sleep very well.
So, you drag yourself out of bed the next morning feeling exhausted, start the day with a coffee and the cycle starts all over again.
If this continues for a long period of time, you might find that weight starts to creep on and sleep quality gets poorer and poorer, along with your mood.
It’s a common cycle that many of us know too well. Believe me, I’ve been there!
But I also know first-hand that it’s a cycle you can change.
It involves learning about the right nutrients for your body and the best way to manage your stress.
Small tweaks to your lifestyle and pre-bed routine can also make a huge difference!
Why is change so hard
Many of my clients report that they're lacking in motivation.
Too tired to exercise or find the time to meditate, and some days it's hard to find the motivation to cook.
When we dig deeper, we usually find that they're not lacking in motivation at all.
Just over-scheduled and overwhelmed!
So we start by addressing the fundamentals:
· Sleep
· Relationships
· Physical activity
· Meeting your daily nutrient requirements
· Mind and body relaxation (stress relief) and work-life-balance
· Connecting to your values and living a life that is meaningful
If you get these foundations right, your body naturally functions in a healthier way.
Your nervous system begins to regulate, your hormones become more balanced and there are less disruptions to your metabolism and digestion.
Behaviour change isn't easy but it's possible with the right support. It relies on building new habits, staying motivated and identifying and removing distractions. By setting clear, realistic goals and knowing exactly what drives those goals, you have a much better chance of achieving them.
Mindset for a healthy weight
Are you ready to start feeling good again and reach your healthy weight in the process? Then it's time to throw out your diet books and focus on tuning back into your body.
With the right tools and support, you can achieve a healthy weight and a healthy mind!
